01 · SYSTEM OVERVIEW

What this activity is

Electrical Systems overview drawing

What this activity is

Electrical fit-out systems distribute power safely from the available supply to lighting, sockets, equipment and controls. Protection, conductor sizing, voltage drop, earthing, segregation and access must be considered together.

What to expect

Expect load verification, circuit design, distribution-board review, containment routing and coordination before cables are pulled. Testing should be progressive: containment inspection, cable identification, insulation / continuity testing, protective-device verification and final functional checks.

01Establish connected load, demand/diversity and supply characteristics
02Coordinate protective devices and fault levels
03Size conductors for current, derating and voltage drop
04Maintain segregation, support and bend radii in containment
05Provide earthing/bonding continuity
06Test insulation, polarity, continuity, RCD/protection and functional operation before energisation
02 · ENGINEERING FUNDAMENTALS

Understand why the system behaves the way it does.

01

Single-phase power P ≈ V × I × PF; three-phase P ≈ √3 × V × I × PF

02

Voltage drop is proportional to current and circuit impedance; verify against project/standard limits at design current

03

Fault protection requires protective-device breaking capacity ≥ prospective fault current at the point of installation

Electrical Systems engineering fundamentals
01

Breaker size alone does not protect a circuit correctly. Cable ampacity, installation method, ambient/grouping derating, short-circuit withstand and protective-device characteristics must be coordinated.

02

Selectivity aims to isolate only the faulted portion of the system. Upstream/downstream breaker curves and manufacturer coordination tables should be checked for the actual device combination.

03

Earthing and bonding are part of the fault-current path. Mechanical continuity of containment should not be assumed to satisfy protective-conductor requirements unless designed and verified accordingly.

03 · EXECUTION WORKFLOW

Six progressive stages from preparation to verified handover.
