Best practices

  • Use full tested system components for rated / acoustic walls
  • Provide backing before walls are closed
  • Avoid rigidly tying deflection details that need movement
  • Coordinate access panels with ceiling pattern
  • Allow joint compound to dry between coats
  • Use grazing-light mock-up for premium painted ceilings

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using ordinary board in wet / high-humidity areas
  • Hanging services from ceiling grid not designed for them
  • Missing backing for TVs, cabinets or handrails
  • Board joints aligned through layers contrary to system detail
  • Inadequate control joints / movement allowance
  • Rushing joint drying and painting, causing visible cracking / flashing

Maintenance & aftercare

  • Keep wet areas dry and repair leaks immediately
  • Avoid drilling rated / acoustic walls without correct reinstatement
  • Inspect cracking at movement / transition joints
  • Clean access panels without forcing hinges / frames
  • Touch up impact damage before board core deteriorates
  • Retain wall-zone drawings showing hidden backing / services where possible
